Stories of humanity: World Humanitarian Day 2015

Comments

Around the world, humanitarian action is saving lives every day. Today over 100 million women, men and children need daily life-saving humanitarian assistance. Provided by the Turkish Disaster & Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), these photos are a glimpse into their lives. Turkey, which will host the World Humanitarian Summit in May next year, has demonstrated extraordinary commitment at home and abroad to supporting life-saving humanitarian aid, including to the 2.8 million Syrians who have fled the terrible conflict next door.

This gallery is part of an event that will be held in Istanbul on August 19th to celebrate the annual World Humanitarian Day 2015.  The event will tell through photographs, video and art some of these remarkable stories.  Joining the celebrations of World Humanitarian Day will be singer Mohammed Assaf.

All over the world events are taking place to create a global awareness-raising campaign on World Humanitarian Day. In our increasingly digitally connected world, this year’s campaign aims to inspire people globally to support life-saving humanitarian efforts. With the hashtag #ShareHumanity we ask you to play a role in giving a voice to the voiceless by donating your social media feeds to share inspiring real life stories of hope and resilience from people caught up in crisis around the world. Join the campaign at worldhumanitarianday.org!

An official countdown to the first-ever World Humanitarian Summit will also begin on WHD to mark this occasion as a milestone to the Summit, taking place in Istanbul on 23 -24 May 2016.
